The Khmer people were one of the first inhabitants of South East Asia. They were also among the first in South East Asia to adopt religious ideas and political institutions from India and to establish centralized kingdoms surrounding large territories. The earliest known kingdom in the area, Funan, flourished from around the first to the 6th century. This was succeeded by Chenla, which controlled large parts of modern Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand.
(Human Resource and Rural Economic Development Organisation) is a Cambodian Non-Governmental, non-profit, non-political Organisation established by a group of Cambodian agriculture and rural development specialists in January 1999 and officially registered and recognized on January 19, 2000. The HURREDO founders and volunteers have experience working as agronomists, agriculture/ horticulture production specialists and agriculture technology instructors. HURREDO is a Cambodian Local Non-Governmental Organisation (LNGO) that sees Cambodia as an emerging economic country, independent, united, and respects human rights and democracy as well as self-equity.
- HURREDO is moving forward to alleviate poverty through improving the quality of life of Cambodian women, children and their families by coordinating activities for development in rural areas of Cambodia and supporting village self-management committees for social, cultural and environmental development.
- The mission of the organisation is to coordinate activities for community development at village level with active support from villagers and cooperate with other organisations and the Cambodian Royal Government to help rural people.
- To improve fields of agriculture, food, health and culture so that people can improve their living standard especially on economic and natural resources. To improve and develop human resources especially the capacity building and technical skills as well as the attitude so that villagers could take responsibility for their own development.
- To improve and strengthen the participatory method through activity research to develop communities and village stability. HURREDO is working with Cambodian people in rural areas to respond to their development needs in close cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia and other Cambodian and International NGOs.
