Projects Future of Khmer Children Organization is  pursuing activities to provide educational opportunities and better living standards for Cambodian children and their families.

Our Goal

At the Future of Khmer Children (FKC) center, our goal is to provide sustainable education services and training opportunities to Cambodian children to give them the best chance for a bright future. With health care education, community support activities and direct aid to families in rural areas we want to improve the living conditions in the rural areas, and help creating a prosperous, peaceful environment for future development.

Educational Support

Our program embraces both general education and vocational training. The children and young adults have the opportunity to learn and develop valuable life skills through a number of activities including Khmer education Mathematics, Khmer culture, traditional dance and music performance, handicraft design, dressmaking and sewing. The children also study English, Computer Training sports, Food Support and Health care.

The resident children of FKC are children who have for different reasons been orphaned or abandoned by their caregivers. They live under full time care in the centre enjoying all the privileges a stable childhood should contain.

The children live with a stable ‘caregiver’ who acts as an educator and mentor providing the feeling of a family group.

The non-resident children are children who still have caregivers but are living under very difficult circumstances. We encourage these children to live with their caregivers, in their village of origin and provide social adaptation by offering education, vocational training, social relations and medical assistance.

 English language classes

Cambodia is a fast developing country and English is becoming an essential skill to have when applying for jobs or higher education. We run beginner and elementary English language classes to provide children the opportunity to combine their public school education with additional language skills. Currently we have 9 english classes in total throughout the day. Students range in age from 5 years to adult students up to the age of 22. The older students come for one hour in the morning and we offer 2 classes for older students between 4 to 6 pm.

Computer Skills

10 new laptops were donated in December 2011 , and a new computer training  course commenced in February 2012. FKC now has an IT teacher who teaches students four hours a day. Students wanting to increase their computer skills often attend the school on weekends to gain further  computer experience. In the past we provided this service to several students as a three months program. The students who completed their courses were able to find better jobs and a higher quality improvement in their career.

Having now acquired the services of a professional teacher, the students are now provided with beginner lessons to advanced, and FKC will be providing  follow-up services to those who complete the course. We’ll provide a certificate after the  course is completed successfully.

Sports and Entertainment

Physical activities play an important role in all children’s healthy growth and in our program. Our grounds contain plenty of open space for activities and a big playground for the children. In addition sport teaches children important life skills such as teamwork, self-esteem and most important of all, it’s great fun!

Our own little football club Future of Khmer Children FKC is inspiring children of all ages to take part in regular football training and volleyball games. The workshop and the new experiences have made a remarkable positive improvement. We are very proud of both our staff members, taking the role as head coach, and our 16 year old kid’s coach who is also a resident youth in Future of Khmer Children Center for Children.

Transportation support

Senior staff will identify those children admitted to the FKC School and orphanage who lack the financial resource to return to their homes. Using a standardized assessment form to determine transportation costs to rural areas, the poorest of families will be given financial support to return home when their child is discharged from FKC.

Supplementary Khmer Education

Many of the children in our program come from backgrounds where they have had limited or no access to education. To overcome this gap and to be able to follow the public school, our teachers from government school run additional lessons in mathematics and chemistry subjects for the children.
