The University of South-East Asia was established on July 7, 2006 by four dedicated Cambodian shareholders in response to the government educational development program of building and enhancing human resources through higher education. 

Overview of University of South-East Asia, Siem Reap

The University of South-East Asia was established on July 7, 2006 by four dedicated Cambodian shareholders in response to the government educational development program of building and enhancing human resources through higher education. It is located in Siem Reap province, Cambodia and about 314 km from Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. Siem Reap province is one of the important economic regions in Cambodia. Because it is rich in ancient temples and other resorts that attract local and international visitors.

USEA was recognized by the Royal Government of Cambodia and operating through Sub-decree No. 63 duly signed by his Excellency Prime Minister Hun Sen. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) recognized USEA by issuing Prakas No. 802 dated 09 July 2007. USEA gained its double accreditation in 2006-2009 and 2010-13 granted by the Accreditation Committee of Cambodia (ACC). USEA had its first enrollment of 600 bachelor students and at present with a total enrollment of 2,980. The enrollment in the undergraduate program is 2,780 and 200 in the MBA program. The top three faculties are: Faculty of Business and Tourism, Faculty of Art, Humanities and Languages and Faculty of Science and Technology. The graduate rate of employment is 95%.

- Educating the staff, lecturers, and students to protect the national culture and civilization, the environment and the peace.

Administration of University of South-East Asia

The University benefits from a committed and active Board of Trustees, whose responsibilities include approval of the plans and budget of the institution. The Board of Trustees, by majority vote, appoints the principal officers of the University, who are the President, the Executive Vice-President, the Treasurer, and the Secretary. Other University leaders are appointed by the President. We are also fortunate to have exceptionally dedicated administrators and staff.

The Executive Committee, comprised of the Executive Vice President, the Treasurer, the Chief Administrative Officer, and the Executive Director for Institutional Advancement, meets weekly to conduct the week-to-week administrative affairs of the University.

Academic governance is based on collegial decision making, implemented through committees of the Faculty Senate, with policies and decisions reviewed by the Academic Council (the executive body of the Faculty Senate) and by the Faculty Senate as a whole.

The administration of daily affairs is conducted by an Executive Vice-President, who reports to the President, in conjunction with the other administrative and academic leaders.

Administrative departments report to the Chief Administrative Officer. Academic departments, institutes, student services, and academic support departments report to the Dean of Faculty, who chairs the Faculty Senate.

USEA PARTICIPATED IN THE TRAINING WORKSHOP ON RESEARCH PROPOSAL WRITING FOR HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS (HEIs)

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) organized the training workshop entitled  “Research Proposal Writing for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) ) on May 2-4, 2012 held at the New Beach Hotel, Sihanoukville Province,  Cambodia. The event was intended for the management and staff of  higher education institutions in Cambodia. 

Dr. Robert Porter, Director of Research and Development  of the University of Tennessee, USA, served as  the resource person in the workshop. He discussed and articulated the topics on building research proposal in a five layer argument composed of the following:

Layer 1 -  Problem Statement and Significance

Layer 2 – Project Goals, Hypotheses or Research Questions

Layer 3 – Specific Project Objectives

Layer 4 – Research Designs and Methods

Layer 5 -  Project Outcomes/Expected Results 

Dr. Porter also conducted an individual consultation with the 15 groups of participants allocating 15 minutes per group.  The participants appreciated the group consultation because they can discussed questions related to their research topics and other related information included in the five layer argument which they found are very useful in their research proposal.

The workshop  also provided  an insight research perspectives which inspired the participants  to work with their research proposals.  At the end of training workshop,  the participants agreed to submit the first batch of proposals starting May 10, 2012 until June 29, 2012  with possible  funding from the World Bank (WB) Funded Development and Innovation Grant. The  WB project  was administered by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport (MoEYS) and was intended for the Higher Education Quality and Capacity Improvement Project.

Dr. Nith Bunlay, the Deputy Director of  Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), MoEYS and the overall workshop coordinator,  delivered the opening and closing remarks  on behalf of  H. E. Mak Ngoy,   the Director General of Higher Education,  MoEYS,  Phnom Penh, Cambodia who had attended an early scheduled commitment.
