I am a Cambodian founder of HVTO for my hometown in the countryside, 30km from the city but I do not stay or live and work there at all the time because I am a permanent professional tour guide working on contract for www.indochina-services.com to earn the living and support my family and we live in the city.
Overview on the management of HVTO (Story by Founder)
HVTO was founded in the summer of 2007, and with the financial sponsorship of Frank and Maria from the United States, we were able to register HVTO officially on 28th August 2008. HVTO is registered in the Cambodian Ministry of Interior as NGO #1049. To understand who are working for HVTO, please click on HVTO Organization Chart.
I am a Cambodian founder of HVTO for my hometown in the countryside, 30km from the city but I do not stay or live and work there at all the time because I am a permanent professional tour guide working on contract for www.indochina-services.com to earn the living and support my family and we live in the city.
However volunteers and I dedicate most of our free time to work for HVTO like going and visit our people and projects, administration, principal concept for the project and communication with donors and fund, reports to government and donors, follow up and mostly it is me to try to put connection with tourists whom I work for and those who are interested in helping HVTO.
What I have been trying to do is to propose to my tour operator or any other operators to include our community into their regular itineraries of tour group so that they would go and visit our villages to see the everyday lives and to get some funds to run our center.
This year, Viking River Cruise would send some groups to visit our village and the employees from their offices have also donated money to install 10 water pumps for people in the village, to furnish our new school like tables, school area filling and electrical supplies.
In addition to the yearly donation from few donors, Some tourists help and thank to my tour operator I am able to give leaf-lets to the people also.
So seems that HVTO fund/budget is not secured and to rely on my job, which is not very good and it is always a big concern for me for almost every year to get fund to run the project before we can build our sustainable group.
In the village we have three staffs. A program manager and other two are teachers and sometimes we have foreign volunteers staying to help with the teachings.
it is not only these of our members (volunteers and staffs) from HVTO to be so active and successful, BUT we also have many Community Committee (these are the key people of villages voted by people) who actively participate voluntarily with many projects of HVTO as we are in the same idea (WE are for the community and community is for us).
For me, the legal member chart from HVTO is important but it is the most important as long as I could drum up the interest of the key people from the community to participate and we are doing many things together and it is a big part of my administrative success.
Our works have been put into, building school, bridge, installation of water pump, building road and education for the kids and here is the link to our pictures that they can tell you more https://picasaweb.google.com/115995443974832262261
Besides these, we also have participation from the local authorities who coordinate many things to make our projects possible so far.
More stories are on the left hand side! Special thanks to all our donors and volunteers for making all this highly needed work possible. Please continue to visit our website where we have information, photos and most importantly, easy ways for you to join our team. Please email us with any questions or suggestions.
