The mission of ABC and Rice is to activate global awareness and helpful resources on the plight of those caught in a cycle of poverty; and to initiate, operate effective community projects, based on the concept of educating children in their native culture and English literacy, while concurrently nurturing the physical and psychological well-being of the children and their families.
ABCs and Rice offers free education and free food programs in an English and Khmer school for the underprivileged children of Poom Sala Consigne, Veal Village and Kroligne Village, 3km from the town centre of Siem Reap. There are currently 180 students aged from 4 to 16.
The curriculum includes Khmer and English reading and writing, cultural and morals programs, English studies, art, craft and sport. Volunteers are utilised from across the globe to assist the programs and development of the organisation. ABCs and Rice has recently taken a lease on an adjoining lease of land which is going to be the Full Belly Farm housing pig, chicken and fish farms and also grow mushrooms and bananas as well as other vegetables. This food will supplement the Breakfast Club and also the monthly food drops to families.
In addition to the Education and Food Programs, ABCs and Rice also provides personal support and development to the Khmer teachers, the children and families and medical and dental care for the children.
