The people faced many obstacles to normal life such as ill health, lack of education, unemployment and in particular poverty. Moreover, the psychological trauma from years of war, compounded by the enduring suffering of many survivors, began to manifest in dangerous behavior. An increase was seen in drug and alcohol addiction, the spread of communicable and venereal diseases, violence within families, smuggling and/or sexual abuse of children, as well as other criminal activities.

Community Education Development

BFT Centre provides community education, helping to eliminate illiteracy. This has been achieved through improving the quality of teaching and learning. BFT has set up a ‘Program’, which aims to develop schools and community as a whole. This is put into practice through inclusive education, community participation for those who do not attend school (including non school age children), and adult literacy and life skills training.

Child Support Center

BFT Centre believes that orphans and poor children deserve to grow up in a safe and secure environment in a dignified manner. BFT uses generous donations to provide public school
education, food, shelter, clothes, health service and entertainment for these children.

Community Health/Nutrition Development

BFT Centre has achieved outstanding progress in continuing its work on improving nutrition, hygiene and sanitation, and community health. This has been achieved through activities such as: school gardens growing vegetable ect. providing child supplementary feeding , supplying supplements of much needed vitamins etc. and enrolling the villagers in a ‘health education program’ in the three communes of Nokor Thom, Ampil and Tayek.

Community Peace Building

BFT Centre has continued its works to reduce family violence by creating a Peace Building Program in conjunction with locals monks. The program provides moral education classes and access to a strong support group which offers counseling through times of hardship and crisis, it also promotes family integration. Thousands of community members and children have changed their behavior and now live peacefully.
Community Capacity Building & Livelihood Improvement
