Visit the best highlights of Angkor Wat and another temple complex over 2 days with a guided tour from Siem Reap. Start at sunrise on day 1, and watch the sunset with stops at many temples on day 2.
This two-day guided adventure is designed to help you make the most of a three-day Angkor temple pass. With the knowledge and stories shared by a professional English-speaking guide, you’ll not only explore Cambodia’s most iconic temples but also gain a deeper understanding of the ancient Khmer Empire. After these two days, you can choose to rest, revisit your favorite sites, or set out on a private Tuk-Tuk journey to uncover hidden gems around Siem Reap.
Day 1 – Sunrise Small Tour (4:30 am – 1:00 pm)
Your journey begins in the magical early hours with a sunrise over Angkor Wat, Cambodia’s most famous and awe-inspiring temple. Watching the first light of day illuminate the ancient stones is a truly unforgettable moment. The morning continues with a guided exploration of Angkor Wat’s grand corridors and detailed carvings, all while enjoying the cooler, quieter atmosphere before the crowds arrive.
From there, you’ll venture to the legendary Ta Prohm, famously known as the “jungle temple.” Enormous tree roots snake through the crumbling walls, creating a unique and dramatic scene that has also appeared in the Tomb Raider movie. Arriving earlier than other group tours ensures you can enjoy the temple’s beauty with fewer people around.
Next, discover the mystery of Bayon Temple in the heart of Angkor Thom. Built by King Jayavarman VII, it is instantly recognizable for its towering stone faces, each radiating calm and serenity. The tour also includes Ta Keo, a massive 10th-century mountain temple where you can climb the steep stone steps for an authentic glimpse into Angkor’s architectural evolution.
Before ending the morning, you’ll pass through the South Gate of Angkor Thom, one of the most striking entrances in the complex, where statues of gods and demons line the bridge, each carrying the seven-headed naga. It’s the perfect closing scene for a morning filled with awe and discovery.
Day 2 – Sunset Big Tour (10:30 am – 7:00 pm)
The second day begins with a deeper exploration of Angkor’s outer temples, starting with the vast complex of Preah Khan, originally built by King Jayavarman VII in honor of his father. From there, the journey continues to Neak Pean, a unique water temple once used for ritual bathing and healing.
You’ll also visit Ta Som, with its famous giant tree growing over the eastern gate, and admire its delicate carvings of celestial dancers. The next stops include East Mebon, once situated on an island in a now-dry reservoir, and Pre Rup, a temple often mistaken for a crematorium but in fact a sacred space for meditation.
As the day draws to a close, you’ll climb to Phnom Bakheng, perched on a hilltop overlooking the Angkor plain. Its 33 towers symbolize the heavens, making it the ideal place to watch the sunset paint the sky in gold and orange. This breathtaking moment ties together the themes of past, present, and future, leaving you with a lasting connection to Cambodia’s timeless heritage.
