BOKOR NATIONAL PARK

Bokor National Park (a site for Chestnut-headed Partridge), situated 1,081 meters above sea level. The park is located at the southern tip of the Elephant Mountains, near the Vietnam border and about 37 km west of Kampot, in southern Cambodia. Bokor contains a stretch of jungle, with rivers, waterfalls, and ruins of French colonial Bokor Palace Hotel. As we ascend through the evergreen forest to Bokor we will start to notice bird species not found in other parts of the country. By the time we reach the top of the escarpment, we will be in the refreshingly cool, stunted montane forest. A welcome relief from the steamy hot lowlands we have left behind.

Target birds at Bokor National Park are: the near-endemic Chestnut-headed Partridge and Silver-breasted Broadbill, Long-tailed Broadbill, Indochinese Green Magpie, Asian Golden Myna, Great Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill and Wedge-tailed Green Pigeon.
Kampot also a very nice place for shorebirds especially saltpans where we hope to find some shorebirds to add to our list such as Whimbrel, Sandpipers, Little-ringed Plover, and Red-necked Phalarope.

BOKOR NATIONAL PARK

Birding tour to Bokor National Park usually done with 2 full days birding at the park as part of our standard itinerary (connecting from Chaktomuk Marshland and stay in Kampot for 3 nights), however a one day birding tour from Kampot to Bokor National Park can also be arranged, here our guide will need to travel from Siem Reap to meet the group in Kampot and start the tour the following day.

It takes around 8 hours drive from Siem Reap to Kampot town; or 3.5 hours from Phnom Penh.

Accommodation:
Rather than staying at the only accommodation offered by Sokha’s hotel group, at Bokor Hill Station, we typically travel 1 hour away to Kampot town. Here there is a variety of accommodation and food to fit every budget, and this also gives us the chance of seeing more birds along the ride up and down the park.
