A selection for our 7 days birding to 5 birding sites: Changkran Roy, Florican Grassland, Tmatboey, Vulture Restaurant, and Kratie.  We will start with one night camping at Changkran Roy (for Bar-bellied Pitta and Oriental Bay Owl…) then back to Siem Reap before continue on to Florican Grassland (for Bengal Florican and Manchurian Reed-warbler…) and on to the Northern Plains staying Tmatboey for 2 nights (for Giant Ibis & White-shouldered Ibis), and Vulture Restaurant for one night (for the three vultures), and finished with Kratie for one night (for Mekong Wagtail & River Dolphin).

This 7-day itinerary we hope for nearly 200 bird species for our list including these targets: Bar-bellied Pitta, Oriental Bayowl, Bengal Florican, Manchurian Reed-warbler, White-shouldered Ibis, Giant Ibis, Pale-capped Pigeon, White-rumped Pygmy Falcon, Red-headed Vulture, Slender-billed Vulture, White-rumped Vulture, Mekong Wagtail, Asian Golden Weaver, and the Irrawaddy Dolphin.

Day 1:  Birding to Changkran Roy

Today we will pick you 5.30 am and take you to the  Changkran Roy for one-night camping, the drive takes about 90 minutes. Today we make the trek to the top of the mountain at Changkran Roy – this incredible natural phenomenon looks like hundreds of traditional stone stoves. This area has a stunning array of butterflies, dragonflies, and birds which we will spot and identify en route. At night time we are looking for Oriental Bay-Owl.

Day 2: AM Changkran Roy; PM back to Siem Reap

We will have breakfast on our walk and will hear calls from birds singing in the canopy, perhaps your vivid pleasant memories of this wonderful site. Returning to the camp for lunch before spending a few hours around the basecamp waterfall on the hunt for butterflies, insects, and birds, or learning about traditional farming techniques with the local community and visiting the village. We return the 1.5 hours to Siem Reap via an ancient Buddist temple at the base of the mountain. We will arrive back in Siem Reap around 4 pm.

Day 3: Florican Grassland & Tmatboey

Leave Siem Reap early morning for the grasslands at Kompong Thom to search for the rare and endangered Bengal Florican and wintering Manchurian Warbler. Raptors including Eastern Marsh Harrier, Pied Harrier, and Greater Spotted Eagle are often seen cruising over the grasslands here. In the afternoon continue to Tmatboey, one of the last strongholds of the very rare Giant Ibis and White-shouldered Ibis. Overnight at Tmatboey.

Day  4: Tmatboey – Giant and White-shouldered Ibis and land of Woodpeckers

We start to leave at 4.30am with packed breakfast, go for the  Giant Ibis roost. We will spend the whole morning also for other key species and come back for lunch and rest before the afternoon birding that start at 3 pm.

Beside the two critically endangered Giant and White-shouldered Ibis. Tmatboey also supports other target species such as Woolly-necked Stork, Black-headed woodpecker, White-rumped pygmy Falcon. The Pale-capped Pigeon is another highlight along with Night-birding is often productive; Spotted and Brown Wood Owls, Collared and Oriental Scops Owl, Brown Fish Owl and Spotted Owlet all being possible viewing at daytime. Stay in Tmatboey

Day 5: Morning Tmatboey; then transfer to Boeng Toal for one night stay

After last morning birding around Tmatbeoy, we will travel further to Boeng Toal (vulture restaurant) arriving late afternoon then enjoy bird watching around the campsite especially Woodpeckers and Vultures. Overnight at Boeng Toal camp.

Day 6: AM Vulture Restaurant – PM transfer to Kratie Mekong Dolphin and Wagtail

Before dawn, the group will make their way to a hide positioned not far from the vulture restaurant. The beautiful scene with up to 70 vultures may be present, often competing for the carcass with Golden Jackal usually happens.

The Vulture Restaurant is a feeding program set up by the government of Cambodia and conservation NGOs to help sustain the 3 critically endangered species of vulture: Red-headed, White-rumped, and Slender-billed Vultures. Overnight at Boeng Toal camp.

After the observing the vulture having their breakfast the group leave from vulture restaurant to Kratie arriving late afternoon where we will stay overnight looking for Asian Golden Weaver, Mekong River Dolphin, Mekong Wagtail, and other wetland birds.

Day 7: AM birding in Kratie; Tailorbird shrub; finish tour in Phnom Penh

For our last day tour, we will visit Kampi after breakfast and take a 90-minute river trip from Kratie to look for Irrawaddy Dolphins, Mekong Wagtail and other species like Small Pratincole along the Mekong River.

Back to the hotel to check out, by 9.30am, we will travel to the Tailorbird shrub located near Phnom Penh. We will finish our 10-day tour either by drop you off in Phnom Penh capital city or travel back to Siem Reap.
